Every time I comb my hair, one of my co-workers approaches me like, “Wow, you have a new hair style!” or “Oh, I see you have a hair cut..”
No, it’s just combed.
Or brushed…
I have a short cut and some days the longer part is on the left, some days it’s on the right. This does not mean I have a hair cut or an ENTIRELY new style every other day. It’s quite amusing, but sometimes just down right aggravating. Today, I was cracking up inside as an older white male colleague stumbled over words to describe what was new with my hair. He used words such as fresh, design, and stylish.
I’m going to do the same thing to him tomorrow. I wonder how he’ll react.
I am the James Blake of what I do. I call a spade a spade. Did anyone else see the press conference after James Blake lost to Fernando Rodriguez? Footage showed that Rodriguez’s tennis racket clearly hit a ball served by Blake before it went out of bounds. The ball even changed direction. But Rodriguez didn’t call it; he didn’t play honest. And Blake blasted him for it later.
Check out the snappy response
Question: Could you describe what the issue was you were discussing with the chair umpire at 9-8?
James Blake: Yeah, hit a shot that hit Fernando’s racket and then went out. The umpire didn’t see that it hit his racket. Playing in the Olympics, in what’s supposed to be considered a gentleman’s sport, that’s a time to call it on yourself. Fernando looked me square in the eye and didn’t call it.
I’ve tried to play this game for as long as I can, you know, I make mistakes, but I try to do it with integrity, so my parents would be proud of the way I played. If that happened the other way, I never would have finished the match because my father would have pulled me off the court if I had acted that way.I’ve spoken all week about how much I’ve enjoyed the Olympic experience, how much I love the spirit of it, how much I love the other athletes, what they’ve sacrificed, and you appreciate that. And the guys go out and compete their hardest, win fair and square, lose fair and square. That’s a disappointing way to exit the tournament when you not only lose the match, but you lose a little faith in your fellow competitor.
Of course Rodriguez had a different take. I would include his side of the story, but after watching the footage for myself – I can’t.
This time last week, two of my favorite people had just arrived in town. On Friday, my bestest came through. There were lots of good times and there were times when I thought I’d rip my hair out. Last Thursday through this Tuesday made me appreciate my friends more than ever. Our personalities are so different, yet we mesh so well together. There’s the certified crazy, the motherly reason, the converted rebel, and the sensitive Suzy. Guess which one I am!
Today I woke up and my whole morning was a frenzy as it whizzed by. I planned to be up and IN the lab by 7:30 at the latest. I was stepping into the shower at 7:54 am. 100% unacceptable. Why can’t I get my life together? I usually am in the bed by around midnight. 6 hours is a decent amount of sleep. What happened to the days of undergrad when I could stay up until around 4 am and be ready for my Cell Bio course at 8?
I am already sleepy and it’s not even 11 am. I need some coffee or something. Lloyd was keeping me awake and efficient yesterday morning. Today? He has lost his charm.
Here is my synopsis of Lloyd’s Lessons in Love:
Catchy tracks are Treat U Good, Year of the Lover, Love Making 101, and I Can Change Your Life. Girls Around the World is my favorite, but that’s probably because I heard it first. I like both the Trey Songz remix and the remix with The Game, TI, Yung Joc, Rick Ross, Yung Dro, Pitbull, Busta Buss, and Ace Hood with the ever so annoying DJ Khaled yelling in the background.
The crew will be reunited soon. Check the picture below. This weekend it will be everyone minus the 4th person. Oh well…

My Girls!
