Current Obsessions

So, I’ve been living a pretty dull life these past few days.  I’ve had the chance to see some of my good friends – in real life and via Skype.  I’ve developed a couple of obsessions over the past two weeks, and I thought I’d share them.

1. Chai Tea.
Now I normally drink the Oregon Chai Tea Latte from either the concentrate or the powdered mix.  However, a couple of days ago, I went on a road trip with a friend.  I was moving rather slow because it was cold (there was even still snow on the ground), so she made me some hot tea.  And ohmygahhh – it was so yummy.  I enjoyed tea the entire car ride, and the next morning I went directly to EarthFare to stock up on it.  Oh Tazo Chai, how I love thee.

2. Victor and Rolf Eau Mega.
I went with an old college friend to Nordy’s this past week.  It was such a good time.  We tried on a gazillion lipglosses and  eyeshadows.  My favorite part was the fragrance counter though.  I knew it was bad news, but I figured I’d be safe because I just got Ed Hardy, Marc Jacobs Lola, and YSL Parisienne.  I was wrong.  I was totally in love with Victor and Rolf Eau Mega.  Now it is mine.  It’s super classy and I can’t get enough of it.

3. Fireside by Bath and Body Works.
Seriously? Everything in my house smells like this.

4. Chris Brown’s New Album.
I don’t care what anybody says – this is a good album.  There is a good mix of everything, and I simply cannot get enough.  One of my favorites is “I’ll Go”!!

5. Skype with New Mama and her baby.
I live for the very moment when Madi Bear gives me a karate chop and a “hiiiii-yaaaaaa.”

For the New Year, I’m just cooling out with some friends.  I did the partying thing last year, and I am so over it.  That’s definitely not my cup of tea for this year.  Whatever you do, I hope that you are safe!  Happy New Year!

Every Time

Every time  I say I’m gonna do better…

I don’t.

It’s pretty pathetic, but it’s me.  What else can you ask for?  I’m so grateful for the *few* good friends that I have to keep me on track.  The past couple of weeks have been really tough, and I’ve had trouble staying focused.  I must have given myself the existential scientist talk at least 3 times a week.  Even as I type this I’m wondering why I want to be a scientist.  Do I really?

So strange.

Anywho, not much going on in the land of me.  Just a bunch of piles of dirty clothes, boxes from too much online shopping, and a massive credit card bill to prove it.

Winter is my favorite time of year, and I love dressing in layers and wearing lots of turtlenecks and whatnot.  However, mother nature missed the memo and it was 75 degrees here yesterday.  So of course I looked crazy with my suede boots on.  As soon as I hit the door, I had to run back inside and change.  I need to check the weather more often.

Last week, a classmate passed the prelim.  I was so happy for her, then the conversation turned to me and everyone wanted to talk science.  That would’ve been fine, but we were at the bar!?  Seriously? Give me a break!

Thursday night was a blast aside from that little portion.  I went with a buddy to the Red Bull Soundclash that same night.  It was Battle of the Bands: The Foreign Exchange v. Love Language.  FE won and I was supergeeked.
I think this Thursday, I’ll head out to Tigallo’s Two Step, which is hosted by Phonté of Foreign Exchange (and Little Brother).  I’d heard of it but never made my way down there.

I never got a chance to say how great The Foreign Exchange was at Cat’s Cradle the other night. Absolutely loved the show.  I purchased the Darien Brockington album back when I first picked up Leave It All Behind.  He was impressive at the show.  After hearing Yazahrah at the show, I feel like she could have EASILY replaced Muhsinah on most of the tracks.  I might try to catch Yazahrah opening for India.Arie soon. Take the jump…

Impulse Moves.

When most people refer to making impulsive moves, they’re usually referring to very small projects.

“Oh I think I’ll bake a cake.”
“Forget it. I quit.”

I’ve decided that I love Ryan Leslie’s new album…and I’m not the gushing type.  I tire of things fairly quickly…actually I’m going to change that. I tire of things at rates comparable to the speed of light.  Yet, I find myself playing this album over and over and over again.  My Last.FM scrobbler is probably gonna have that name BURNED into the window!

Well, I cannot find reliable tour info about him.  The websites I visited show two dates in March at S.O.B.’s.  Hmm…  If that’s the only time you plan to perform Mr. Leslie, I will have to save up my measly stipend and hopefully a tax refund check.  This morning I decided that I am going to NY next week or two weeks… whenever it is. I must be there.  Now this isn’t such a big deal, but that also means I must completely characterize my mutant library before I go.

E. coli...

E. coli...

Oh science, you make a girl’s dreams so difficult.

From Here...

From Here...

....to here.

....to here.

End of Transmission.

Ryan Leslie

I have been following Ryan Leslie for a while now. I got the album a couple days ago – I don’t know how I let the release slip by me like that. I like to pre-order everything! I am truly loving it. Plus I like that some things have changed from the YouTube postings. I was surprised to hear the extra drums on I.R.I.N.A. at the end. Loves it!
Thank you Ryan Leslie for your musical genius which keeps me dancing around the lab, getting my experiments done.

Two thumbs up.
